Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of music do you compose?
I compose emotionally resonant, cinematic music—primarily for drama and genre films. My scores range from textural and ambient to lyrical and thematic, always serving the narrative.
What types of films do you typically score?
I work on narrative features, animated films, documentaries, and select television drama. I gravitate toward projects with emotional weight, bold visual language, or philosophical depth.
Can I hear samples of your work?
Yes. You can find a curated selection of work on my showreel and explore more on my YouTube channel and SoundCloud.
What makes your compositions distinctive?
My background as both a performer and an arranger informs a hands-on, textural approach. I blend acoustic and electronic elements, often drawing on live improvisation and field recordings to create human, cinematic soundscapes.
I’m a filmmaker—how can I work with you?
Please reach out via the contact form or email with a short description of your project. If I’m available and the material resonates, we can set up a conversation to explore working together.
What is your typical process when collaborating with directors?
Every project is different, but I usually begin with a creative discussion around tone, pacing, and structure. From there I develop musical sketches, refine themes, and work iteratively with the director until the score feels right.
At what stage of production should I contact you?
Ideally as early as possible—even at script stage. Early conversations help ensure the music is conceptually aligned and woven into the edit with intention.
Do you also work on short films, series, or documentaries?
Yes
Are you currently available for new projects?
It depends on the timeline. Please get in touch to check availability.
What is your rate for composing a score?
Rates vary depending on the scope, rights, and schedule. I’m happy to discuss your budget and find a solution that works for both of us.
How long does it take you to compose a score?
This depends on the project length and complexity, but for most feature films I allocate 6–10 weeks. I also accommodate faster turnarounds when required.
Do you perform live?
Yes
What’s your background as a performer and arranger?
I’ve worked with Van Morrison for over a decade as musical director and arranger, in addition to recording and performing with a wide range of artists. This background feeds directly into how I construct scores and collaborate musically.
Do you offer one-on-one sessions or mentorship?
Occasionally. I teach film composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and offer private sessions to select students or early-career composers.
Do you have a Patreon or newsletter I can join?
Yes, I share behind-the-scenes material, project updates, and occasional essays through my Patreon and my email list. You can join both via the homepage.
